Antique Socket Bayonet with Leather Scabbard

We are not experts at socket bayonets but we believe this possibly is a US model 1855 Socket Bayonet for a .58 calibre Rifle/Musket.Overall the The Bayonet is in good condition for its age with no cracking and only light surface rusting on the tip of the blade and around the socket.The blade measures 18″ with a triangular cross section and the flat face on top.The brass tipped leather scabbard may have been painted or lacquered and this is starting to crack but overall it is holding together.Originally there would have been an angled leather belt loop,but this has been lost.The Bayonet is for sale in our Wellington store.
