Vintage French Army Snow Overboots MSC03
This type of canvas and leather overboot was used by the French Army during the Narvik campaign of May 1940 in Norway during WW2. They remained in service through to the 1950’s when these were made. They are a thick leather foot board onto which is sewn the leather and canvas upper. On the bottom there are leather ridges with metal hobnails for traction. They were meant to be worn over boots in snow conditions. They come in two sizes: Size 1 measures (inside) 29cm long. Size 2 measures 32cm long. The last photo shows how they come out of storage. We recommend soaking in water for roughly 24 hours to soften the leather. Then bend and shape the leather into place and stuff with paper. Once they have dried apply generous amounts of leather conditioner/dubbin etc to nourish the leather.
